About the Trust
The Trust initially was formed as a sub-committee of the Romsey & District Society in 1974 but since 11th July 1975 has operated as a Charitable Company Limited by Guarantee (Certificate of Incorporation 1219145).
It has a number of Trustees who are volunteers together with several advisors who provide essential professional guidance.
The Trust has also about 60 members who can contribute to the Trust’s activities if they so wish. Joining the Trust is free and gives Members the right to vote at the Annual General Meeting held each autumn.
What the trust relies on
We rely on voluntary work and the determination of our Trustees and Members, together with a group of professionals, to build partnerships with owners, leaseholders, funders, contractors, architects and many others to make each project a success.
Values and aims
The Trust maintains contact with the owners of the restored buildings to ensure that the fabric of the building is maintained appropriately and also gives advice to the owners of buildings at risk. Our work over the past forty years has set an example for the importance of maintaining our built heritage.
How the Trust Functions
- By taking a strategic interest in the local buildings and their state.
- By highlighting buildings at risk.
- By purchasing and restoring threatened buildings to a high standard.
- By using the formula of revolving funds + AHF loans to finance projects.
- By working with local councils to identify and restore heritage projects.
- By introducing opportunities in conservation and heritage to young people (see Signal Box)
