This small, late 18th century cottage, one of a Grade 2 listed terrace of similar dwellings in the Conservation Area, was one the last properties in Romsey still using an outside lavatory.  The whole building was in a dreadfully dilapidated state and the interior required complete gutting and refurbishment.

A concrete base was initially laid across the entire ground floor and a kitchen extension was built at the rear with a slate roof to match the main roof that was extensively repaired.  The interior was restored throughout with traditional chestnut lathe and lime plaster ceilings and lime plaster on the walls. The original rear bedroom was converted into a large bathroom and, on the ground floor, a modern kitchen and interior lavatory were fitted.
